Highlights of 2014, Thus Far Chemistry of Materials has seen many changes thus far, including: - a brand new look - a new Editor-in-Chief - several new Associate Editors and a Managing Editor, with more to join this year - our 25th Anniversary Issue (first issue of 2014) - an editorial and new cover image for every issue - an active Twitter account (please follow us @ ChemMater) - several new initiatives about to be announced over the next few months What we are most proud of is the diversity of high quality, interesting papers from all corners of materials chemistry that are appearing in our pages. At the time of writing, we have published 7 issues in 2014, which encompass a wide spectrum of subject matter that ranges from nanomaterials, to soft materials for in vivo applications, to the incorporation of new materials into devices, to fundamental understandings of materials of technological interest, and many others. Figure 1 provides a panorama of the different types of materials we have published in a single issue (issue 7, 2014).

conditions, and materials for OLEDs. While synthesis is an important part of any branch of chemistry, by no means is it an essential component of an exciting paper in Chemistry of Materials. Many of the papers we publish include new syntheses, but others do not. As highlighted in our Scope and Editorial Policy,7 submitted manuscripts should describe a significant advance compared with prior published work, and this is the key statement. If your work brings to light new properties that are of interest to the materials chemistry community, then we are interested as well. As stated in our Scope and Editorial Policy,7 every manuscript is evaluated by two editors, and our primary concern is the significant advance. We hope that you can see from Figure 1, and from all of our issues, that we also recognize that the chemistry of materials is, by its very nature, a broad research domain that is rich in fascinating and important societal challenges. Please bring your significant advances and interesting materials research to Chemistry of Materialswe will be as proud as you to publish it.

Figure 1. Examples of original research chosen from issue #7 of 2014, to demonstrate the breadth of the chemistry of materials we publish.1−6

This issue is made up of 37 papers, of which 6 Table of Contents (ToC) images are shown. As can be seen, the topics include solid state materials applications (like phase-change memory), graphene-based hybrid materials, the behavior of commonly used materials for organic photovoltaics (i.e., PCBM in OPV), the mechanism of shape-selective nanoparticle synthesis, hydrogels designed to operate under physiological © 2014 American Chemical Society
