In Houston Instrument's contest: Two Winners Get Together... Westrex and the Series 100 X-Y Recorder Two winners got together in Burbank, California this spring—the result of a contest sponsored by Houston Instrument division of Bausch & Lomb. In the fall of 1979 Houston Instrument held a contest to find the owner of the oldest HR-100 recorder still in operation. Introduced by HI in the early 1960's, the HR-100 X-Y recorder served for years as the basic "workhorse" recorder in a myriad of industrial and scientific applications. The contest was announced in a number of major trade publications and the prize was to be a new Series 100 recorder, the latest in Houston's complete line of recording instruments. Westrex division of Litton Industries was the winner of the new Series 100 recorder. A pioneer in the development of movie sound systems, Westrex has set the industry standard in stereophonic master disk cutting lathes. The HR-100, purchased in 1963, has been working continuously in testing of the company's 3D type stereophonic cutting lathes. The Series 100 features a patented capacitance feedback transducer—a non-contacting zero friction capacitor which eliminates slidewires and pots that require frequent replacement and constant upkeep. The Series 100 is a complete family of recorders and provides you with the versatility to configure the recorder to fit your exact application.

YOU CAN BE A WINNER, TOO The contest is over, but it's still not too late for you to be a winner. All you have to do is put the Series 100 X-Y recorder to work in your recording application. You'll find that no other recorder can match the Series 100 in performance, flexibility and price.
