How well can polyether urethane elastomers resist microorganisms? Urethane sealing compounds are being used in an increasing number of applications where they are exposed to microorganisms for long periods of time. A good example: their use as sealers or gaskets for clay or concrete pipe, where the environment may be rich in microorganisms from sewage or soil. A recent study at our research laboratories tested five different low-cost elastomeric sealers based on Wyandotte polyethers in the presence of microbiological cultures. Results are favorable

The results indicate that these sealers do not support biological growth, nor do their properties deteriorate in microorganismrich environments. A new data sheet based on this study is now available to sealant and caulking-compound manufacturers. Spray-dried calcium carbonate now available Spray-dried Purecal® Ο is now available for shipment in bulk hopper-cars, bulk boxcars, or 50-lb. bags. Spray-drying does not change the chemical and physical performance characteristics, but does density the product. Bag size has been reduced by 25%, which means more can be stored in the same space. Additionally, bulk hopper-cars are available in 100,000-lb. capacities.

Improved properties Spray-dried Purecal Ο has a lower angle of repose and therefore flows more readily in bulk unloading systems than the regular hammermilled product.
