TEFLON'

— won't fend themselves pump parts are mechankally sfrong to galvanic pitting and erosion

Finding durable materials for theimpeller, bearing and packing in chemical process pumps is sometimes a difficult problem for pump manufacturers. Conventional bearings are often subject to erosive pitting . . - impellers tend t o gall after short periods of use. B u t one manufacturer found the solution for all 3 parts i n one m a t e r i a l - D u P o n t "Teflon" tetrafluoroethylene resin. "Teflon" is inert to all chemicals a n d solvents except molten alkali metals a n d fluorine under extreme c o n d i t i o n s . . . d o e s not impart any taste, color or odor to t h e product transferred. It h a s an extremely l o w coefficient of friction. E v e n when o p erated in acids, the bearings are not subj e c t to erosive pitting. The impellers m a d e of filled "Teflon" won't gall, shrink, swell,

crack or harden in use. And the "Teflon" packing w i t h s t a n d s high pressures in temperatures u p t o 500°F. "Teflon" is also widely used i n the chemical industry as a gasket material. I t s unique dielectric properties serve t h e electrical industry in many t y p e s of insulation. A n d this heavy-duty plastic shows promise for many new applications, especially those where extreme service conditions are encountered.

Write for technical booklet on Polychemicals products for your industry Technical bulletins on ' 'Teflon" tetrafluoroethylene resin and t h e chemicals and plastics used in y o u r industry are available. E a c h product bulletin in t h e booklet presents physical and chemical properties, description, specifications, uses and possible applications, bibliography and other data. Write u s o n your business letterhead for your copy—and please tell u s the type of application that y o u have in mind.
