Improved PYREX® ground joints seal better and freeze less We've improved grinding techniques so that PYREX J ground joints leak less, jam and freeze less, than any others you've used. The taper of PYREX J joints now is controlled well over 50% better than required by Commercial Standards Specifications. This produces a uniform bearing surface across the entire joint. There are no high points to jam, no lows to trap organics— typical defects common in joints made to less rigid standards. Add the improved ground finish and you get more reliable performance under atmospheric, pressure or vacuum conditions. How to test for uniform taper. We use water-sol uble dye to test mating characteristics. Note that the better taper mating in the new PYREX joint diffuses the red dye into a pale pink across almost all the joint surface. In the less perfect joint, the bands of uneven color i n d i c a t e high p o i n t s caused by imperfect ta per control. Such a joint may seal satisfactorily, but it will also have a greater tendency to jam and to freeze. On a good pair of joints, the dye test will show uniform con tact between inner and outer over a minimum of 50% of continuous surface length. Markings on all new PYREX ground joints are bigger, so you can match apparatus more quickly. On the inside, we've eliminated restrictions that might cause holdup.
