his entire professional life. In addition to teaching, he carried on research on cyclic acetals, ethers, Grignard reagents, acridines, anthraeenes, chromanones and pyrazolines. He has been one of the most active workers in chemical education. Joining the Examinations Committee-ACS in 1944, he participated as a member in the construction of three early tests in Organic Chemistry and later as a sub-committee chairman in four additional areas. He continued as editor in all subsequent tests that had Organic Chemistry content. During the post-Sputnik era, he represented the Committee and gave lectures on evaluation and testing a t numerous NSF Summer Institutes, including one in India. In 1964, he was appointed Vice-chairman on the Examinations Committee for the High School area. In this capacity, he worked with and guided the various sub-committees that constructed the regular and advanced examinations in high school chemistry which have been used to test millions of students.
