WEB SITES ENDS Environmental Daily (http:// www.ends.co.uk), published by Environmental Data Services in London, is offering a free two-week trial subscription to the first daily European environmental news service on the Internet. The news service covers policy, legislation, and industry issues. Although events in the United Kingdom receive center stage, this is an excellent source for authoritative coverage of European Union news. The service is distributed via e-mail and posted on the ENDS site. The site also provides a searchable directory of back issues and job listings. An online Directory of Higher Education Environmental Programs is being built by the nonprofit Committee for the National Institute for the Environment (http://www.cnie. org). Much of this site, which aims to be an objective resource for environmental information, is under construction. The directory will contain detailed information on undergraduate and graduate interdisciplinary programs. Administrators, faculty, and staff can submit information through a survey form. The site also offers a searchable databases of more than 100 reports from the Congressional Research Service on the environment agriculture and natural One of the best U.S. government sites on the Web is set to shut down. The Department of Energy's Congressional Question and Answer/ Testimony Database (http://www. doe.gov/html/osti/qadbpg.html) is a WAIS database containing the full text of the department's testimonies before congressional committees as well as pre- or posthearing questions and answers. The service is sponsored by the Office of the Executive Secretariat and is maintained by the Office of Scientific and Technical Information. The site, which was last updated in
September, will be closed this year because of DOE funding cuts. Information about environmental activities around the Chesapeake Bay is available at the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay site (http://web. gmu.edu/bios/bay/acb/index.htm). The site reviews policy issues that affect the bay and provides fact sheets about its condition. The alliance provides a forum for discussion and analysis of bay issues and promotes public involvement in policy making.
LISTSERVS EPA's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response has established a Brownfields Listserv to electronically distribute announcements, press releases, and newsletters on EPA's Brownfields Initiative. The listserve will also be used to alert subscribers to updates of the Brownfields home page (http://www.epa. gov/brownfields). To subscribe, send an e-mail message to Listserver@ unixmail.rtpnc.epa.gov. In the body of the message, type "subscribe Brownfields firstname lastname."
