Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan), through its licensee, will provide flue-gas desulfurization to Thyssen AG, West Germany’s largest steel maker. High-quality gypsum will be a by-product. Stone & Webster Engineering Corp. (Boston, MA), and CTIP S.p.A. (Rome, Italy) have established Energy Systems Engineering (ENSEN) in Rome to provide marketing services for the two firms. Stone & Webster owns 40%. Heyden & Son Inc. (Philadelphia, PA) was appointed exclusive North American marketing/distribution agent for Georg Thieme Verlag (Stuttgart, W. Germany). The firm will market technical books, among which are many titles in sulfur and organic chemistry. Neptune AirPol Inc. will supply adjustable throat venturi scrubbers for cleaning blast-furnace gases at Kaiser Steel Corp. (Fontana, CA), and Inland Steel Co. The Inland unit will be the sixth at that plant. The Kansas Power and Light Co. (Topeka, KS) estimates that use of solar-assisted electric water heaters could cut water-heating energy use in half, and is running an experimental program to back up that estimate.
