(Austin, TX) said that its technology will be used in an array of global weather experiments by the World Meteorological Organization. Tracor will supply Omega navigation technology to Vaisala Oy (Finland), the prime contractor.

Siemens India Ltd. has orders for more than $18 million to assure an adequate water supply to the city of Bombay, India. Siemens will install a wide range of related electrical equipment. Bombay requires about 2 million m3/d of water. Fluor Corp. (Irvine, CA) will have a subsidiary negotiate a contract to engineer/design the major part of a gas centrifuge uranium enrichment process for the Department of Energy (DOE). Value is $25-30 million. Southern California Edison (Rosemead, CA) and Texaco Inc. announced that preliminary engineering is under way to develop a major coal gasification project at Edison’s facility at Daggett, CA. Dravo Corp. announced that a 3.6-mgd wastewater treatment expansion Dravo designed for Tenneco Oil Co.’s 120 OOO-bbl/d refinery at Chalmette, LA, recently went on line. Broomall Industries, Inc. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan), through its licensee, will provide flue-gas desulfurization to Thyssen AG, West Germany’s largest steel maker. High-quality gypsum will be a by-product. Stone & Webster Engineering Corp. (Boston, MA), and CTIP S.p.A. (Rome, Italy) have established Energy Systems Engineering (ENSEN) in Rome to provide marketing services for the two firms. Stone & Webster owns 40%. Heyden & Son Inc. (Philadelphia, PA) was appointed exclusive North American marketing/distribution agent for Georg Thieme Verlag (Stuttgart, W. Germany). The firm will market technical books, among which are many titles in sulfur and organic chemistry. Neptune AirPol Inc. will supply adjustable throat venturi scrubbers for cleaning blast-furnace gases at Kaiser Steel Corp. (Fontana, CA), and Inland Steel Co. The Inland unit will be the sixth at that plant. The Kansas Power and Light Co. (Topeka, KS) estimates that use of solar-assisted electric water heaters could cut water-heating energy use in half, and is running an experimental program to back up that estimate. The Atomic Industrial Forum, Inc. (Washington, DC) said that neither rain, cold, nor strikes have impeded delivery of electricity from U S . nuclear power plants.
