Vreeland Model 6 spectroscope pro vides rapid identification of the com ponent elements of a mineral sample. This new instrument features a com parison system which displays a selec tion of standard spectrograms, in true spectral colors, in the same field of view as the sample spectrum. The operator simply compares the ob served sample spectrum with the ad jacent spectral lines of the standard films to determine the presence or absence of the standard elements in the sample. Model 6 was designed particularly for a rapid check of ma terial composition and as an educa tional instrument. Spectrex Co., 8 3 0 Chimalus Dr., Palo Alto, Calif., 430

Gas Syringe

A new small nude ultra-high vacuum partial pressure analyzer is capable of detecting partial pressures smaller that 1 Χ 10"13 torr. The 2-90 MB mag netic-analyzer mass spectrometer is de signed to operate inside a large vacuum chamber. I t occupies 1 sq. foot and is 10 inches high. The instrument is equipped with an electron bombard ment ion source, an ion accelerator, a permanent magnet analyzer, and a 20stage pie-type electron multiplier detec tor. Mass range is m/e 2 to over 200 Nuclide Corp., 642 E. College Ave., State College, Pa. 431

A new line of gas syringes for gas chromatography features Adjust-OSeal construction, allowing adjustment of the tension of the plunger seal with out dismantling the syringe. Plunger tips are constructed of stainless steel The syringes are available ifi sizes from 0.25 to 20 ml. Scientific Systems Corp., 6453 Choctaw Dr., Baton Roup, La. 70805 433

Power Supply Model V-302 is a fully programma ble, amplifier type power supply with an output of 0 to 3000 volts. Input voltage is 105 to 125 volts; frequency, 60 cycles; input power, 125 watts; line regulation, 0.001%; and load regula tion, 0.0007%. The instrument is avail able for rack mount or in a remote ver sion in either a 3 1 / 2 -inch rack panel or a small cabinet. Gyra Electronics Corp., Box 184, LaGrange, 111. 60526 432

Alumina-Coated TLC Sheet Eastman Chromagram Sheet 6CÎ62 consists of an inert polyester base with a uniform coating of a highly-active grade alumina of about pH 9, which may be modified by pretreatment to render it neutral or acidic. Each sheet measures 20 X 20 cm. The polyester base is about 7.5 mils thick, uniformly coated with the alumina to a thickness of about 100 microns. The sheets may be developed in the company's developing apparatus or in a jar-type chamber properly lined with filter paper Distillation Products Industries, Rochester, N.Y. 14650 434

ISCO DENSITY GRADIENT FRACTIONATORS. when used with an ultraviolet analyzer such as the ISCO Model UA or 220: 1 RECORD UV absorption throughout the density gradient. *DETECT as little as 1 microgram quantities of nucleoproteitt in concentrations as small as 1 microgram per milliliter. SHOW accurate quantitative results on chart record.

Model D Density Gradient Fractionator Modol Τ Fractlw Collector ISCO's density gradient fractionation apparatus is the only equipment which will force a sucrose or other gradient out the top of the centrifuge tube and through a UV monitor. This arrangement eliminates the zone distortion and limited accuracy resulting from pumping or draining the gradient column through a hole or needle inserted in the bottom of the tube. Quantitative analysis with ISCO fractionation apparatus is easily accomplished since the area under the UV peaks on the recorder chart is directly propor tional to the total mass of material in the corresponding zone. This equipment is described by Dr. M. K. Brakke in his paper:

Photometric Scanning of Centrifugea Density Gradient Columns, Analytical Biochemistry, 5, 271, (April 1963). We will send a reprint of Dr. Brakke's paper on request. ISCO Density Gradient Fractionators are priced at $395 and $1350.
