International Conference on Chemical Education: 1977 Chemical Education in the Coming Decades: Problems and Challenges The committee on Teaching of Chemistry of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry has announced plans for the Biennial Chemical Education Conference, which will he held in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia, in September 1977. The exact date will be set to follow the IUPAC General Assembly to he held in Poland in August or September 1977. This will he the latest in a series of Biennial Chemical Education Conferences sponsored by IUPAC and funded in part hy UNESCO. The aims of the conference have been stated 1. This conference has been designed to he of particular importance and interest to chemists and chemical educators from developing countries. A general announcement with details will he distributed nationally and internationally when plans for the conference have been completed, probably early 1977.
Continuing Education in Industry Dr. William B. Cook, USA National Representative, has been appointed convener of a working group to do an international study of continuing education programs for chemists in industry. Other members of the group are Dr. F. Garana, Arab Repuhlic of Egypt, Dr. J. W. Raynal, France, Dr. D. E. Wright, United Kingdom, Professor G. Pregaglia, Italy, and Professor Hursula Hofacker, Federal Republic of Germany. The survey is intended to gain information about existing programs for continuing education and training of chemists in industrv in member countries of IUPAC: to collect examples of industrial training methods and programs in chemistry; to study the interchange of University and industrial staff now practiced in member countries; and to prepare a report which will be submitted to IUPAC for distributing to member countries. Request for information will go to the university and industrv uersonnel in all IUPAC member countries. Dr. Cook will weicome information from readers of the JOURNAL. William 6.
