Introducing Viewpoints in The Journal of Physical Chemistry A/B/C
A
t the start of 2015, a new manuscript type, the Viewpoint, was introduced in The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters. These are editorial content written by experts in the field who can provide insight and commentary on topics of broad interest for the community. In the short time since Viewpoints have been introduced, they have covered topics ranging from a stepby-step laboratory experiment designed to teach undergraduates about perovskite solar cells to a criticism of the term “biological water”. We are pleased to announce that the Viewpoint series has now been expanded to The Journal of Physical Chemistry (JPC) A/B/C. What can readers expect from these new publications and how will they differ from those in JPC Letters? Viewpoints that appear in part A, B, or C of JPC will be targeted to one of the many research communities that form the foundation of the journal. As with Viewpoints in JPC Letters, Viewpoints in JPC A/B/C could cover a broad range of topics, from commentary on new trends in a given subdiscipline, to issues affecting funding or employment in a subdiscipline, to the description of a new research center. As one example, JPC will publish meeting report Viewpoints that summarize important conferences. Viewpoints are editorial material and are expected to be short, with only a few references. JPC Letters will continue to publish Viewpoints on broad-scope issues affecting the full physical chemistry community. In this spirit of providing the many subfields of physical chemistry with insights beyond original research articles, we are open to suggestions for topics from our readership. Conference organizers and attendees are welcome to contact the editorial office with a request to write a meeting report. Researchers at all levels are invited to submit topic ideas, as well. The term “physical chemistry” covers a broad scope of fields, and JPC aims to be the home journal for these many fields. We hope that the Viewpoints will provide a valuable forum for all researchers in physical chemistry. Ideas for Viewpoints should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief or one of the Deputy Editors.
