Iron contamination reduced
. . . a s much as 9 0 % ! .engineers of the Barium Reduction Corporation, South Charleston, W . Va.; found that iron was being picked up from two sodium sulfide concentrators. The 30% solution received from evaporators, when boiled to 60% sodium sulfide, analyzed 0.1-0.3% F e 2 0 8 . They installed new concentrators of nickel-clad steel, and put i n nickel pumps, lines and valves. Iron content dropped to 0.030%! B.R.C. went even further. They installed a nickeld a d evaporator with nickel auxiliaries. Average iron content dropped again . . . this time to 0.025% F e 2 0 3 . For all process industries purposes, they had practically iron-free sodium sulfide. In a similar way, your products, too, can be insured against harmful metallic contamination. Nickel is successfully used for handling caustic alkalies, phenol, plastics, ethyl cellulose and other synthetics, reagents, intermediates and solvents. A good conductor of heat, nickel has countless applications in the fabrication of steam chests, condensers and jacketed units. Not only does this corrosionresistant metal possess high mechanical strength and toughness, but it is also readily worked. It may be

FABRICATED from Lukens Nickel-Clad Steel by the Zaremba Company, Buffalo, N. Y., this concentrator is one of two used in converting 30% sodium sulfide liquor to 60% strength. After more than 4 years of service, nickel surfaces remain unaffected by continuous exposure to hot, concentrated sulfide.
HOT SODIUM SULFIDE liquor is pumped from evaporators to concentrators by this nickel centrifugal pump fitted witb a Monel* shaft. Capacity is 40 gpm against 80 it. bead. Seamless nickel piping and nickel fittings and valves assure high resistance to the corrosive hot sulfide. Pure nickel pump manufactured by Taber Pump Company, Buffalo, N. Y.
