MEETINGS • 6th International Symposium on Preparative Chromatography. Wash ington, DC. May 8-10. The meeting will feature invited and contributed oral presentations, poster presenta tions, and discussion sessions on pre parative chromatography. Prospective authors should submit abstracts, limit ed to one single-spaced typed page, in dicating preference for oral or poster presentation. Abstracts should include title, authors, text, references, com plete address, and phone number and should be submitted by Nov. 30 to Ja net Cunningham, Barr Enterprises, P.O. Box 279, Walkersville, MD 21793 (301-898-3772). • 10th International Symposium on Capillary Chromatography. Riva del Garda, Italy. May 22-25. The program will cover basic and practical aspects of microseparation techniques, including capillary gas chromatography, capil lary liquid chromatography, capillary supercritical fluid chromatography, and capillary electrokinetic chroma tography. Emphasis will be placed on stationary phases and columns, instru mentation, and applications. Authors wishing to present papers should sub mit 300-word abstracts before Dec. 15 to P. Sandra, Laboratory for Organic Chemistry, University of Ghent, Krijgslaan 281 (S4), B-9000 Ghent, Belgium. • 3rd International Symposium on Q u a n t i t a t i v e Luminescence Spec trometry in Biomedical Sciences. Ghent, Belgium. May 23-26. Plenary, keynote, and invited lectures as well as contributed papers and posters will cover fundamental and applied lumi nescence spectrometry. Abstracts of 200 words or less should be printed or typewritten double-spaced on white 21 X 29.7 cm paper; a margin of 2.5 cm should be left above, below, and on ei ther side of the text. The abstracts, in quadruplicate, should be submitted to Willy R. G. Baeyens, Rijksuniversiteit Ghent, Laboratoria voor Farmaceutische Chemie en Ontleding van Geneesmiddelen, Farmaceutisch Instituut (F.F.W.), Harelbekestraat 72, B-9000 Ghent, Belgium. Deadline for submis sion is Feb. 15. • 11th I n t e r n a t i o n a l Symposium on Microchemical Techniques. Wiesba den, F.R.G. Aug. 28-Sept. 1. The sym posium will cover pure and applied as pects of analytical chemistry related to inorganic and organic trace, micro, and surface analysis in natural sciences, medicine, technology, and environ mental science. Authors wishing to present posters should request forms from Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker, Abteilung Tagungen, Varren-

trappstrasse 40-42, P.O. Box 90 04 40, D-6000 Frankfurt am Main 90, F.R.G. Deadline for submission of forms is Jan. 10. • 6th Symposium on S e p a r a t i o n Science and Technology. Knoxville, TN. Oct. 22-27. A variety of separation science topics will be covered, includ ing solvent extraction; adsorption and ion exchange; membrane separations; absorption; distillation; physical sepa rations (solid-liquid, solid-gas, and solid-solid); photochemical separa tions; supercritical fluid-based separa tions; chromatography; field-flow frac tionation; separations by leaching pro cesses; electrochemical separations; biochemical separations; and novel or new separation techniques. Title, au thor, affiliation, address, phone num ber, and a 200- to 250-word abstract should be submitted by April 1 to J. T. Bell, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, P. O. Box 2008, Oak Ridge, TN 37831. Authors should indicate if their papers are particularly suited for poster pre sentation. • 20th I n t e r n a t i o n a l Symposium on Environmental Analytical Chemis t r y and 4th Workshop on Chemistry and Analysis of Hydrocarbons. April 17-20,1990, and April 20-21,1990, re spectively. Strasbourg, France. The meetings will feature invited and sub mitted papers and posters covering the fields of environmental analytical chemistry and chemistry and analysis of hydrocarbons. Topics will include chemometrics and validation; develop ments in speciation studies of inorgan ics; new technologies for water, air, and soil quality control; fate, distribution, and metabolism of organic pollutants; and hyphenated instrumental methods in environmental analysis. Prospective authors should submit titles and ab stracts before March 31 to M. FreiHausler, Postfach 46, CH-4123 Allschwil 2, Switzerland.
