Just Accepted “Just Accepted” manuscripts have been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication. They are posted online prior to technical editing, formatting for publication and author proofing. The American Chemical Society provides “Just Accepted” as a free service to the research community to expedite the dissemination of scientific material as soon as possible after acceptance. “Just Accepted” manuscripts appear in full in PDF format accompanied by an HTML abstract. “Just Accepted” manuscripts have been fully peer reviewed, but should not be considered the official version of record. They are accessible to all readers and citable by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI®). “Just Accepted” is an optional service offered to authors. Therefore, the “Just Accepted” Web site may not include all articles that will be published in the journal. After a manuscript is technically edited and formatted, it will be removed from the “Just Accepted” Web site and published as an ASAP article. Note that technical editing may introduce minor changes to the manuscript text and/or graphics which could affect content, and all legal disclaimers and ethical guidelines that apply to the journal pertain. ACS cannot be held responsible for errors or consequences arising from the use of information contained in these “Just Accepted” manuscripts.

Langmuir

Scientists turn to Langmuir for information at the forefront of current colloid and interface science. In Langmuir, they also find the key papers that makes this science a vibrant research field that underpins much of contemporary nanotechnology and nanobiology. Langmuir also publishes the fundamental interface science that leads to industrially important technologies like water-repellent surfaces, corrosion resistant coatings, electrochemical interfaces, biocompatible surfaces, or 'green' industrial processes. A single issue of Langmuir might include articles on theory, methodology, electrochemistry, biology, polymer science, photophysics, and supramolecular chemistry, pertaining to thin films, colloids, lipid bilayers, emulsions, micelles, or gels. Such a juxtaposition of fields triggers creativity and crossgermination. This is my inspiration as a scientist and my vision for Langmuir! Beyond chemistry and science, interfaces connect (or isolate!) people, cultures, and the arts, which is why "Interface" is one of my favorite words! The editorial team listens to the voice of authors, particularly during international meetings and “meet the editor events”. We hear very often that authors value the editorial policy of Langmuir, which is to focus on the fundamental science of systems and materials in which the Interface dominates structure and function. Langmuir publishes research that involves the synthesis, analysis, and theoretical understanding of interfaces, which in turn leads to new structures and functions. For example, articles compiled in two separate 2017 topical issues, one on “Fundamental Interface Science for Energy Applications” (edited by Keith Stevenson, Debra Rolison with Richard M. Crooks) and another entitled “Surfaces and Interfaces for Molecular Monitoring” (edited by Han Zuilhof) vividly demonstrate how fundamental interface science underpins practical systems. An issue entitled “Tribute to Gubbins, Pioneer of the Theory of Liquids” (edited by Caroll Hall with Shaoyi Jiang) emphasizes the connections between theory and interfacial phenomena. Looking forward, keep an eye out for the second issue of 2018, which will feature the work of early career authors reporting on their research in the field of fundamental colloid and interface science (edited by Dan Schwartz, Jacinta Conrad, and Noshi Pesika). It will convince you that our field is vibrant and energetic, and that the forthcoming generation of interface scientists is truly amazing. Later in the year, you will discover an issue devoted to “Nucleic Acids Nanoscience at Interfaces” edited by Bruce Armitage, and more to come ! V. Ramamurthy toiled relentlessly to edit Invited Feature Articles (IFA) in which a scientist summarizes her/his published contributions on a timely topic.

In 2017, Langmuir

published 20 IFAs originating from 10 countries on topics such as Janus colloids, the colloidal properties of cement, and liquid marbles. Occasionally, researchers are invited to ACS Paragon Plus Environment

We are particularly indebted to

Langmuir reviewers, who give freely of their time to help authors craft their manuscripts. Indeed, the quality of reviews is a hallmark of Langmuir. Members of the editorial advisory board enrich Langmuir through their constructive suggestions and criticisms. For example, they contribute to the on-line Journal Club led by Richard Crooks, Executive Editor of Langmuir. They also represent Langmuir at scientific meetings: Syuji Fujii (Osaka Institute of Technology) has been Langmuir’s ambassador in Japan, Yilin Wang (Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science) and JingCheng Hao (Shangdong University) promote Langmuir in China. As a group, they act as links between the Journal and the scientific community it serves. The 2017 Langmuir Lectureships, co-sponsored by the ACS Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry and Langmuir were awarded to Paul Cremer (The Pennsylvania State University) and Frank Caruso (The University of Melbourne), who gave their award lectures during the annual ACS fall meeting in Washington, DC. The 2018 call for the awards will open soon, so please consider nominating a deserving colleague. The Langmuir editorial team continues to evolve to ensure that it comprises leadership and expertise in the most important components of fundamental colloid and interface science. Shu-hong Yu (University of Science and Technology China) and Bernie Binks (University of Hall) joined us as senior editors early 2017. Christina MacLaughlin came on-board as Langmuir's Managing editor in November. She brings youthful energy and expertise in spectroscopy and bio-interfaces to the Journal. She will be responsible for facilitating interactions with authors and editors in her role as the chief liaison between Langmuir and ACS Publications. Two long-serving editors, Xi Zhang (Tsinghua University) and Bruce Armitage (Carnegie Mellon University) stepped down at the end of 2017 to take on new challenges. We are deeply indebted to them for their dedication and professionalism. Looking forward to 2018, we encourage scientists working in the fields of fundamental interface and colloid science, regardless of whether their subdiscipline is chemistry, physics, or the biological sciences, to join the Langmuir family by contributing their very best research to the Journal. We promise a timely, fair, thorough, and expert
