This broad-based forty-chapter volume describes how these laser probes, when combined with detailed computer mod­ els, can be used to provide pertinent chemical information for the design of clean and efficient means of fuel com­ bustion. CONTENTS The volume is divided into seven sections: overviews; laser-induced fluorescence and molecules; laser-induced fluorescence and atoms; spontaneous Raman scattering; coher­ ent Raman-scattering; modeling and kinetics; and other diagnostic techniques. Topics in­ clude laser probes of premixed laminar methane - air flames, the hydroxyl group in flames, saturation broadening, and nitric oxide detection in flames.
