New Products Hybrid Scanning System for Transmission Electron Microscopes The hybrid scanning system is designed to be used with any Philips EM 400 transmission electron microscope having a scanning capacity. Rocking beam or subspecimen scanning allows a diffraction pattern to be displayed using a scanning monitor and provides for possible on-line diffraction analysis. Chemicals A m y l a s e Reagent Enzymatic amylase reagent, DeltaTest Amylase (UV) is a lyophilized, singlecomponent reagent that produces glucose when it acts on a modified carboxymethylated starch substrate in the presence of glucoamylase. The glucose produced is measured kinetically at 340 nm using hexokinase and G-6-PD. The reagent is available in 10 X 6.5 mL and 10 X 16 mL put-ups. After reconstitution, the reagent is stable 8 h at room temperature, up to 3 h at 37 °C, and 3 d when refrigerated or frozen. Upper limit for the reagent's dynamic range is 2000 U/L. The normal range at 37 °C is 74-258 U/L. Adaptable to automated instrumentation, it can be used at 25, 30, or 37 °C. Each is a clear, colorless, nontoxic liquid of low volatility, manufactured from L (+) lactic acid. The esters are miscible in the following organic solvents: aliphatic and cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatics, chlorinated hydrocarbons, alcohols, esters, ketones, DMF, DMSO, and water. Limited miscibilities are observed for ethyl lactate with the higher alkanes (e.g., octane) and for butyl lactate with DMSO and water. Ethyl lactate has a high tolerance for water.
