W « •; If your process involves both amine reactions and alcohol reactions, a Pennsalt alkyl alkanol amine may save you money by eliminating steps in syntheses. Instead of adding an amine group or a hydroxyl group to a compound which requires a number of steps in its synthesis, you may be able to obtain the same product in fewer steps by using a Pennsalt alkyl alkanol amine. These "ambidextrous" compounds are extremely useful,

for instance, in the synthesis of N-substituted amino acids, where the end product can be obtained in one step by oxidation of the hydroxyl group. They also find application in the preparation of peptides, proteins, and polymers containing amide linkages. If you need an alcohol or an amine with unusual solubility characteristics, Pennsalt alkyl alkanol amines may be the answer. The presence of the amine group, for example, renders Pennsalt alkyl alkanol amines soluble in aqueous solutions which are mildly acidic.
