National Vacuum Symposium The Tenth National Vacuum Sym­ posium, sponsored by the American Vacuum Society, will be held Oct. 16 to 18 at the Statler Hilton Hotel, Bos­ ton, Mass. The subjects to be dis­ cussed include production and meas­ urement of ultrahigh vacuum, surface phenomena at low pressures, struc­ ture and properties of thin films, and vacuum techniques in space simula­ tion, freeze drying, and other processes. Contributed papers on new and origi­ nal work are invited. Abstracts should be sent to G. H. Bancroft, 398 Kilbourn Ttd., Rochester 18, Ν. Υ.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spe­ cialties, Inc., New Kensington, Pa., manufacturers of accessory instrumen­ tation for analytical NMR spectrom­ eters, has announced the availability of NMR analytical services on a commer­ cial basis. The services will be per­ formed using a Varian Model A-60 Analytical NMR and complementary equipment of the firm's own make.

The Perkin-Elmer Corp., Norwalk, Conn., has become the exclusive sales representative for the complete line of gas chromatography valves and con­ trollers produced by The Biotron Co., Houston, Texas. Biotron valves are used in Perkin-Elmer gas chromatographs and will continue to be available to other chromatograph manufacturers. The Sensitive Research Instrument Corp., makers of electrical instruments of precision, has become a part of the Singer Metrics Division of the Singer Manufacturing Co., based at 915 Pem­ broke St., Bridgeport 8, Conn. Varian Associates has established a new crystal technology activity. The new research and development function will concentrate on crystals for laser, maser, semiconductor, and magnetic applications.
