Two samples of Emersol Fatty Acid photographed after 48 hours of incubatior at 35°C. The sample above was artificially contaminated with a mixed culture of microorganisms including mold, yeast, and bacteria. There are approximately 29 organisms present at 1:100 dilution which represents 2,900 per gram of sample. The sample at bottom was selected from a batch prior to shipment. There is no contamination either at 1:100 or 1:10 dilution. (The small dot present at about 1:00 o'clock in the agar surface is an air bubble.)

Low Bacteria Certification now available for Emersol 132 USP Lily Stearic Acid. Assures low level of Bacteria and Fungi Emery introduces a new concept in quality control: low bacterial certification for both flake and powder forms of Emersol 132 USP Lily Stearic Acid, technical grade, and Emersol 6332 Food Grade Stearic Acid. Emersol 132 LBC is carefully tested and each batch certified to have under 50 colonies per gram bacteria and fungi. Typical analysis shows a colony count of less than 10 per gram, the detectable limit of the test. A low bacteria count in the end product can help protect against emulsion breakdown, color degradation, odor generation, possible recall, and in general, a lowering of product quality and shorter shelf life for cosmetic

formulations. Any of these problems may result from high levels of contamination; and once your formulation is highly contaminated, you cannot—even with preservatives—expect an end product with an acceptable bacteria or fungi content. This new LBC certification on

stearic acid is an extra facet of Emery's continuing policy of producing only the purest fatty acids as exemplified by low odor, light color, excellent color and oxidation stability, and batch-to-batch uniformity.
