Symposium

Introduction to Symposium on KerogedMacerals The Society for Organic Petrology and the Geochemistry Division of the American Chemical Society cosponsored the symposium “The Geochemistry and Petrography of KerogenIMacerals” at the American Chemical Society meeting in San Diego, California, on March 13-15, 1994. The papers presented over the three days covered a broad spectrum of topics on kerogens, coals, and source rocks and included the discussion of a wide range of analytical techniques for the petrographic and geochemical characterization. With the dynamic growth of modern analytical techniques, symposiums such as this one are necessary to keep the research community properly informed of new developments in the field. The forum provided an opportunity for researchers from discrete disciplines to interact and was important in this field in providing new dialog and directions for the field of kerogen geochemistry and petrology. The papers collected here, while not covering the entire scope of the meeting, provide an overview of the subjects covered. Symposium organizers Tom Robl, Adrian Hutton, and Sunil Bharati did an excellent job of bringing together a truly international group of speakers for the meeting. They are to be congratulated for having the foresight to organize an outstanding symposium.
