ACS Analytical Division Fellowships 1966 the ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry established a sumIthesenmer fellowship program. At that time we expressed the hope that Summer fellowships might be the forerunners of a more ambitious series of Full Year academic fellowships patterned after the highly prestigious Merck Fellowships of some years ago. I t is with particular satisfaction, therefore, that we call attention to the announcement elsewhere in this issue [page 51 A ] , of the establishment of a program of nationally competitive graduate fellowships in Analytical Chemistry to be administered by the ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry. In parallel with the ACS awards, the fellowships are to be known as the ACS Analytical Division Fellowships, sponsored by (the particular donor). In this manner each donor will be given appropriate recognition for the support of a particular fellowship while continuity and uniformity will be provided by the Analytical Chemistry Division. A special committee of the Division is to be charged with the responsibility of judging the appropriateness of each application with regard to research field as well as to its quality. Since similar criteria will apply to Full Year as well as to Summer applicants, both will be handled by the same procedure. The Perkin-Elmer Corp. and the Procter & Gamble Co. as the first two industrial sponsors of Full Year fellowships, have given public recognition of the importance of analytical chemistry as a vital and significant research field. I t is our hope that other sponsors will follow their example, either this year or in future years. The ACS Analytical Division and the sponsors deserve congratulations on their foresight and initiative in setting up this program. I t should contribute materially to attracting outstanding young people to a profession offering exceptional opportunities for service to society as well as for contributions to knowledge.
