Development of sparkproof portable conveyers tor use in applications where explosive dust or fumes create ha^^ards is announced by the Samuel Olson Mfg. Co. The conveyor frame is of steel with hard rnaple rollers and hard maple side guards. The maple side guards extend approximately an inch beyond the steel frame and over the ends of the rollers. Materials moved on the conveyor cannot strike the steel frame and cause sparks. The maple rollers have hexagon shafts equipped with ball bearings. Brass fer rules are provided at the ends of each roller to prevent splitting. The casters are heavy duty type with ball bearing wheels and ball bearing swivels. The wheels have rubber tires. Frame and roller dimensions can be varied to meet specific requirements. The con veyors are also furnished with fixed sup ports for permanent installations. Η 1

Link-Belt Co. has developed and is now producing a conveyor of oscillating trough type for the handling of loose bulk mate rials at moderate capacities. The company states that the conveyor construction is ideal for handling chemi cals, foodstuffs, and other material where cleanliness, contamination, or corrosion is a factor, and that hot, sharp, jagged, or oily material, such as steel chips and turnings, are handled with "virtually no wear of metal troughing. Escape of dust or gases can be eliminated by the addition of a metal cover with flexible connections at loading and discharge points. The design features the use of a onepiece metal trough with high sides, sup ported on simple one-piece flexible mem bers which function as springs in absorb ing the energy of the trough movement at each end of the stroke. Conveyor trough is normally 4 inches deep and can be furnished in standard wiutiis ΟΙ ο tö 24 Lnciies, maue Oi No. 10 or 12 gage steel, stainless or corrosion resisting steel, or other special material. Motion is imparted to trough by a rollerbearing, constant-stroke eccentric. Uniform, continuous flow of material is assured regardless of overloads or surges, according to the company. The trough oscillates at the natural frequency of the Flexmounts, reducing the reaction forces on the drive to a minimum and requiring only the horsepower necessary to convey the material. The Flexmount is very compact and requires an opening only slightly larger than the trough. Troughs in lengths up to 100 feet can be furnished, and dividers can be installed to convey several materials simultaneously. Discharge is possible at any desired point.
