CARBON MONOXIDE Now being produced and shipped in 5 cylinder sizes by Matheson plants in Newark, Calif., Joliet, 111., and East Rutherford, N. J. Reduced West Coast prices effective Jan. 1, 1962. bon Monoxide to give acrylic acid and derivatives. 11. Aliphatic ethers react with Carbon Monoxide or Carbon Monoxide and water to give esters or acids. 12. Formals react with Carbon Monoxide in the presence of boron trifluoride or strong acids to give alkoxy substituted esters.

The Matheson Company supplies two grades of Carbon Monoxide: a C. P. Grade of 99.5% minimum purity and a Commercial Grade of 98.0% minimum purity. Matheson is the sole U. S. producer of high purity Carbon Monoxide in cylinders. Carbon Monoxide (BP-327.5°F) is a toxic, flammable, colorless, and odorless gas. It is shipped as a nonliquefied gas in high pressure steel cylinders at a maximum pressure of 1000 p.s.i.g. at 70 °F. according to I.C.C. regulations. The extensive use of Carbon Monoxide in various chemical applications is illustrated by the following reactions:
