Editorial

May Organic Process Research & Development Keep Growing! 2002 was the best year ever for Organic Process Research & DeVelopment with the number of published pages increasing from 674 in 2001 to 950 in 2002, and the last issue (No. 6) of 2002 containing 35 papers. To all those authors who are contributing highquality articles to OPR&D I would say, “Thank you and keep the papers coming.” Submissions are still continuing at the same rate as in 2002, but I know there is a lot more quality science and engineering that never gets written up. Now is the time to make a New Year’s resolution to write up your current or past process R & D project for publication. I hope that we, at OPR&D, have succeeded in changing the views of management and maybe even those of patent agents concerning the necessity to publish important work in the field. Over the last 7 years OPR&D has helped to build a community of process R & D chemists and engineers who can exchange ideas and further the profession. Events organised by my own company and also by ACS provide opportunities to present R & D results in public. However, a conference paper should be followed by a detailed and full publication so that all can benefit from the access to hard data and experimental results. I intend to make 2003 even more successful than 2002 and expect the journal to break the 1000-page barrier in the coming year. Is there any reason a further 40% growth should not be achieved (without sacrificing quality, of course)? The answer is in your hands. Announcement after ASAP: Our second special feature of 2003, targeted for the November/December issue, issue 6, will be on Polymorphism and Crystallization. This announcement is posted December 31, 2002; the ASAP version was posted December 19, 2002. Trevor Laird Editor OP025614Y
