Extend your research into the vacuum UV and use the emissions of the most highly ionized atoms

FEATURES: Only with the McPherson Model 216.5 "corrected locus*" plane grating Spectrometer can you extend your research into the vacuum UV to use the emissions of the most highly ionized atoms and have: • Coma-Free Spectral Lines and Flat Focal Plane . . . by rotation and simultaneous compound motion the grating is placed in a position with respect to both the collimating and focusing mirrors to produce coma-free spectral lines at every wavelength. • Fast . . . f/9 optical system with the highest available resolution of any plane grating spectrometer manufactured today. • Wavelength Scale . . . accurate to within ±1A throughout the entire wavelength range and reproducible to 0.1A. • Stigmatic Optical System . . . to allow full use of the Hartman diaphragm, sectors, and neutral density step filters.

Mode! 216.5—a vacuum 3-MODE HALF 1ETE1

MONQCHRQMATQR SPECTROGRAPH DIRECT READER The M o d e l 216.5 is a vacuum, half-meter version of the highly successful McPherson Model 216. Spectroscopic analysis in the vacuum ultraviolet relates directly to the analyses in other parts of the spectrum and in most cases is essential to establish the relationship between the normal and excited states of the atom. The coma-free, symmetrical lines make this an essential instrument for: time resolved spectroscopy; plasma re search in shock tubes, hi-mach w i n d tunnels, sliding sparks, exploding wires, pinches and oscillator strength measurements. Mode 1 . . . AS A SCANNING M O N O C H R O M A T O R : 1050A to 16 microns.

Mode 2 . . . AS A SPECTROGRAPH w i t h 1700A per ex posure with the 2400 l / m m grating on either 35mm film or 2 inch plates. Mode 3 . . . AS A 6 CHANNEL DIRECT READER. Modes are instantly interchangeable without disruption of any optical systems. The vertical rack holds both the focal plane slit mask for the Mode 3 direct reader and either the bilateral slit or the plate holder. The rack is moved vertically to bring the proper focal plane into the optical plane without disrupting the phototube arrangement for the direct reading mode.
