N e w Welding Library at Ohio State A new library on welding, believed the most extensive in existence has been established at The Ohio State University. It already contains more than 700 books. Known as the A. F. Davis Welding

Library, it is the gift of A. F . Davis, vice president and secretary, T h e Lincoln Electric Co., Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Davis received the degree of M.E. in electrical engineering from the university in 1914 and his reason for placing t h e library there was that Ohio State has the only four-year course in Welding Engineering.

The Polish Institute of Arts and Science (Academy of Science in Exile), Section of Pure and Applied Science, held three conferences on pure and applied science a t Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh, Penna., on May 11 and 12. W. Swietoslawski, senior industrial fellow at Mellon Institute, acted as chairman. At the conference on pure science on May 11 Dr. Mrzowski, University of Chicago, spoke on "Forbidden Radiation in Spectroscopy a n d Astrophysics" and O. E . Jennings on "Ecological Plant Geography of Western Pennsylvania". At the conference on applied science on May 11, T. Sendzimir discussed postwar possibilities in the steel industry, and H. H. Lowry tallied o n coal research. On May 12 a t the conference on nutrition Maria Gutowska spoke of world food policy, and Herbert H. Longenecker discussed adequate nutrition, a goal for t h e future.
