202, the Model 500 has a flow-controller assembly, a temperature-controlled injection port, a column and temperature programmer, and a detector assembly and recording system. The column packing in the new unit consists of a highly conditioned silicone gum rubber. Other high temperature packings have been reported, says F & M. These include irradiated asphaltenes, other petroleum residues, and inorganic salts. Purchasers of the instrument will have a choice of two heating arrangements, a heater wrapped directly on the column itself or an oven whose temperature can be linearly programmed. Maximum length of the wrapped column is 10 feet, while the oven can accommodate columns up to 50 feet in length. F & M says the apparatus can handle complex mixtures of organic and inorganic gases, organics in water, and high boiling materials such as glycerides found in natural products. P-3 Contaminant Detector An instrument for measuring gaseous atmospheric contaminants in small amounts is introduced by Industrial Instruments, Inc. The instrument can be used with any gas or vapor that will ionize in water, according to the company, and is also applicable to those gases whose decomposition products on heating will ionize in water.
