The Philadelphia Section of the ACS presents

Modern NMR for Organic Chemists Part I. Theory and Practice of NMR for Organic Chemists June 4-6,1990 Part II. Two Dimensional NMR for Organic Chemists June 6-8,1990 The Flanders Hotel, Ocean City, New Jersey Location:

The Flanders Hotel is a resort hotel located on the Boardwalk in Ocean City, New Jersey, approximately 15 minutes south of Atlantic City.

Instructors:

Part I: Dr. Lloyd Jackman, Professor of Chemistry at Pennsylvania State University Part II: Dr. James Shoolery, Senior Applications Chemist at Varian Instruments. Dr. Peter Rinaldi, Director of the Molecular Spectroscopy Laboratory, University of Akron.

Key Topics:

Part I: An intermediate level treatment of important areas in modern 1-D NMR. An understanding of these is vital for the effective utilization of 2-D techniques. Topics include: interpretation of spin-spin coupling patterns; rate processes and NMR; introduction to Fourier transform methods; carbon 13 NMR and establishing connectivity; relaxation and the NOE; use of NMR in stereochemistry and conformational analysis; theories of δμ, 5Q and J. Part II: Principles of 2-D NMR instrumentation and theory; capabilities of modern 2-D NMR methods; practical aspects of interpretation of 2-D spectra; applications of 2-D NMR to the solution of structural problems.

To Register:

The fee for either Part I or Part II is $750. Participants registering for both halves of the course will receive a substantial discount, $1190 to register for the full week. It is strongly recommended that all persons interested in the 2-D NMR course also register for Part I. The registration fee includes a shared hotel room and all meals. Discount: $50 for registration payments received prior to April 15. $25 discount for dues paying members of the Philadelphia Section of the ACS.

For Information: Call Dr. Helen Burke at (215) 248-7194 or Dr. Ed Piotrowski (215) 233-6433.
