Electrical M a t e r i a l s a n d E q u i p m e n t . . . Nonflammability, high resistivity, high di electric strength and low p o w e r factor of liquid resinous AROCLORS a r e extremely useful in many electrical applications. Coat ings for underground c a b l e s a r e addition ally protected by AROCLORS against cor rosion and attack by termites. Hydraulic Pressure Medium . . . T h e ARO CLORS contribute an unusually high safety factor when used as hydraulic media in high-pressure operations such as zinc-alloy die casting. Possible line leaks or breaks, even in the presence of open flames, con stitute no fire h a z a r d because of the non flammable characteristics of the AROCLORS. Soil Poisoning . . . A d d e d to fill-in soils in any t y p e of construction, the AROCLORS prevent attack by termites. Chlorinated Rubber Finishes . . . When used as plasticizers for chlorinated rubber, AROCLORS a d d toughness and flexibility. Valuable as finishes for alkaline surfaces such as brick, concrete, stucco, and for acid, alkali and moisture-resistant coatings. Paints a n d Varnishes . . . AROCLORS a r e used to give g r e a t durability and a d h e sion and to vary the d e g r e e of hardness or flexibility in quick-drying paints. A d h e s i v e s , water-insoluble. Properties of t h e The AROCLORS r a n g e in form and a p p e a r a n c e from mobile oily liquids to fine white crystals and hard trans parent resins. They possess the follow ing properties: Adhesion . . . AROCLOR resins a d h e r e strongly to glass, metal, or smooth var nished or lacquered surfaces. Electrical . . . High resistivity, high di electric strength and low power factor a r e characteristics of the AROCLORS. Thermal Conductivity . . . Of particu lar value as high-temperature, lowpressure fluid heat transfer medium. Non-Drying . . . When exposed to air, even in thin films, no noticeable o x i d a tion or hardening occurs. Drying r a t e of lacquer films is not r e t a r d e d . Nonflammability . . . High safety factor

in high-temperature, high pressure a p plications. When fluxed with resins and pitch-like materials, AROCLORS give a product having a d e c r e a s e d fire h a z a r d . Stability . . . AROCLORS have marked stability t o w a r d s alkalies, acids, h e a t and oxidation. Compatibility . . . AROCLORS a r e com patible with most of the common plastic materials. Solubility . . . AROCLORS a r e easily sol uble in most of the common organic sol vents and drying oils. They a r e insoluble in water. Thermoplasticity . . . No condensation or hardening a p p e a r s upon r e p e a t e d melting and cooling. Vaporization . . . The AROCLORS h a v e low vaporization losses. Aroclors.

Tubing, C o a t i n g s , Sheets W h e r e lack of non-toxicity is essential in a plasticizer to be used for such applications as tubing for the transfer of beer, b e v e r a g e s , milk and liquid foods—industry is turning more and more to the use of Monsanto Santicizers B-16, E-15 and M-17. In addition to their non-toxicity, these glycollates impart no characteristic odor or taste. This makes them further useful in their application to can and c a p liners. They a r e also used in hospital sheetings, acrylic dentures and similar products.
