JANUARY 3, 2006 VOLUME 22, NUMBER 1

Editorial More Changes An Editorial at the beginning of 2005 noted several changes in the Langmuir Editors and the way manuscripts are submitted and reviewed. The changes have continued and it is important to note several of them. We have decided to join the growing number of journals accepting only electronic submissions. Since introducing the option of web submission about four years ago, we have seen a rapid increase in electronic submissions and a concurrent decrease in mailed submissions. Processing of electronic submissions is faster and easier for reviewers, editors, and editorial offices. We are actively recruiting Feature Articles and plan on having one or more per month. Kirk Schanze is coordinating recruitment of Feature Articles and would welcome suggestions of topics and/or authors. A compilation of Feature Articles is posted on the Web (http://pubs.acs.org/ journals/langd5/promo/feature_articles/). With this issue we update our “categories” as provided in the list below. We note that several areas previously listed are not on the present list. For example, “theory” as a separate category is not listed. This does not reflect any de-emphasis of theory, but rather a consensus among the Langmuir Editors that papers dealing with theory should be integrated into the specific area of their focus. Langmuir Subject Categories: 1. Colloids: surfactants and self-assembly, dispersions, emulsions foams 2. Interfaces: adsorption, reactions, films, forces 3. Biological Interfaces: biocollolids, biomolecular and biomimetic materials 4. Materials: nano- and mesostructured materials, polymers, gels liquid crystals 5. Electrochemistry: interfacial charge transfer, charge transport, electrocatalaysis, electrokinetic phenomena, bioelectrochemistry 6. Devices and Applications: sensors, fluidics, patterning, catalysis, photonic crystals As always, we urge authors to suggest which category they believe is appropriate for their submissions. Otherwise the Editors will make the selection. David G. Whitten Editor-in-Chief LA0530844
