This paper describes a sampling and analysis method for measuring trace concentrations of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in small volume (0.5 L ) water samples collected above sediment contaminated by these toxic organic compounds. The method was used in conjunction with a Benthic Flux Sampling Device at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (Sinclair Inlet, W A ) . Concentrations near or below 1 ng/L were measured for 24 PAHs.
