Meetings

MS in Atlanta The 43rd ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics will be held May 21-26 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, GA. The conference will feature daily plenary lectures, oral sessions, poster sessions, workshops, and short courses. Registration will be held Sunday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Rates are $180 for members, $115 for student members, $270 for nonmembers, and $160 for student nonmembers. There will also be 18 workshops offered during the meeting and four short courses prior to the meeting. One of the highlights of the meeting will be the presentation of the sixth ASMS Award for Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry to Keith R. Jennings of the University of Warwick (U.K.) on Wednesday, May 24. Jennings is being acknowledged for his pioneering research on collision-induced dissociation (CID). Jennings' work on metastable ions and their decomposition led to an understanding of the process, in which a selected ion collides with a gas causing activation and subsequent fragmentation, and the subsequent development of the technique now known as CID. CID forms the basis of most tandem MS experiments, is the primary tool for ion structure characterization, and is used for mixture and molecular structure analyses in polymer science, natural products, drug metabolism, the environment, and biochemistry.
