In the automatic control of a complex process, or the multiple control of a simple one, many hands make light work, but also too many cooks spoil the controlling and tend to make it messy, bulky, and costly. Not so with the T h e r m o electronic multipoint temperature controller developed by T h e r m o Electric Co., Inc., Saddle Brook, N . J. T h e Model 80215 controller does indeed have many hands—10 of them, to be exact—and each of them can handle a separate controlling job. T h i s instrument can be used on any process having characteristics suitable for two position or on-off control. It may be used with any transducer that generates direct current, such as: • Thermocouples • Tachometer generators • Load cells Also, it can measure electrical resistance of: • Resistance thermometers • Strain gages • Pressure transducers In addition to its use as a 10point controller, it can also be employed as a monitor, having the output terminals of the relay connected to an audible alarm, signal lights, or shut down device to stop a process in the event of an alarm condition. By stopping the automatic scanning, the unit may be used as a single-point controller of temperature at any point, determined by ad-

Thermo Electric Multipoint Controller control b o a r d allows easy check of scanning positions and process conditions

justing the set point until the red light goes on-off. T h e temperature can then be read at this point on the dial. If only five points are being used for on-off control, the remaining five may be used to give threeposition control when required. T h e multipoint controller combines a sensitive circuit with an electronic control system. Accuracy is 0.5% of range, with calibrated range scales available for all standard thermocouple materials. Standardization is continuous by means of a highly stable constant voltage supply unit. For maximum operating convenience all controls and switches are located on the front panel of the instrument. In addition, 10 white lights show scanning position, 10 red lights show process conditions, and 10 knobs provide for quick easy setting of control points. In operation, input signals are scanned in sequence, at the rate of 3 seconds per point, and compared to slide-wire control settings. Other scanning rates are available. Signal deviations are amplified in accordance with their polarity by the high gain relay control amplifier. Amplified signals provide correc-

tive action through 10 load relays connected to processes being controlled. T h e multipoint controller is compact, only 19 by 1 0 y 2 inches frontal area, and 15 inches deep. It is sturdily built to withstand adverse plant conditions. All components are easily serviced from the front of the unit. Case may be purged, if necessary. All components and inp u t terminals are covered for protection. Accessories include loadrelay panel, profile recorders, heaters, control valves, and a selection of others. Because of the complex nature of the instrument and the combinations of components with which it can be used, a direct price cannot be quoted, but T h e r m o Electric will be glad to quote on specific instruments with periphery equipment. By adding only .05% to 3.0% of Marasperse (based on the weight of solids ), a viscous pasty mass becomes an easy-to-handle freeflowing liquid. The action of Marasperse prevents, and reverts, the flocculation of insoluble particles in water suspension. Only the state of the mass is changed. The volume is unaffected because the Marasperse is taken into solution by the available water. The versatility of Marasperse dispersants is best described by the variety of applications in use, such as oil well drilling muds, gypsum slurries, ceramic slips, pesticides, dyestuffs, industrial cleaners, concrete, pigment, carbon black and clay dispersions, ore flotations, and many others. Marasperses are water-soluble, non-hygroscopic, non-fermenting, free-flowing powders. For additional information use the handy coupon.
