ear at a different time. More impor tant—chemistry looks like a "shoo-in" for next fall's 6:30 A.M. slot. "If" fac tors at present: scraping up indus trial support and gelling the right man to teach the course. Deadline for the decision is April 1. American Chemi cal Society and AACTE officials have conferred recently on ACS participation in the proposed chemistry show. And if chemistry is chosen, it appears that ACS will play some part in the program. • Teachers Respond. Some 2 5 0 colleges and universities, the greatest number ever to join in a common course for credit, carried the first semester of TV physics. Of these, 238 offered the course for undergraduate or graduate credit or both. "Continental Class room" was carried on 149 stations, more than most big network programs—Perry Com ο has only 185. Of some 4500 enrolled for credit or audit ( evaluation survey results are still

sketchy), perhaps 3000 are teachers. This is heartening, says AACTE, for if that main- are taking the course for credit, then probably a lot more are watching it who don't need the credit. On the whole, first semester classes were small, averaging 20 to 25 students, and pretty well scattered around the country. Two notable exceptions: University of California had the largest, with 240 students; University of Florida and Florida State, in a joint program, were close behind with 190 students. But how students fared on the pro gram will not be known for some time, says AACTE. The majority of schools offered the course for three hours of credit and combined it with a weekly or biweekly seminar on campus. A good number, however, accepted the TV lectures as sufficient "in-class" ac tivity and used the correspondence technique for weekly assignments. Interest in the second-semester course outshines the first—279 schools and 151 stations are carrying it. The first semester, devoted to classical phys ics, was not set up for advanced de gree credits. But in the current one (Fell. 11 to June 5 ) , national instruc tor Harvey E, White, University of California (Berkeley), serves up atomic and nuclear physics especially geared to advanced degree credit. • Problems, Problems. But the course's success didn't come without its share of trials and tribulations, says national coordinator Edwin P. Adkins. First and foremost, AACTE had to sell school officials on the idea—con vince them of the effectiveness of TV study, get them to offer credits for the course. Next came the problem of arousing public interest, getting infor mation about the program into the hands of individuals. Here, the sup porting industries—U. S. Steel, Stand ard Oil of California, Bell Telephone, IBM, Pittsburgh Plate Glass Founda tion, and General Foods Fund—stepped

The addition of as little as .05% to 3.0% of Marasperse (based on weight of total solids) will a . change a viscous pasty mass to a freeflowing liquid, or b. permit an increase of u p to six times in the amount of solids in a suspension without a corresponding increase in viscosity.

Because of the potency of Marasperse, only the state of the mass is changed. The volume is not apprecia-foly affected. Marasperses are w a t e r - s o l u b l e , freeflowing powders used by a "wide variety of industries. F turn the coupon below for additional information.
