APPLICATIONS OFSPECTROGRAPHICANALYSIS
ADVANTAGES OF SPECTROGRAPHIC ANALYSIS • Sensitive to 1/10,000,000 of a gram for some elements • Saves time in analysis • Detects unsuspected metals • Accurate testing is possible with very small sample • Provides a permanent record • Differentiates between two ele ments chemically very similar • Analysis can be made in some cases without destroying sample The term "National" is a registered trade-mark of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation

ANALYSIS CONTROL OF ELECTRIC FURNACE STEELS • Producing a wide variety of high carbon, chromium, and chromemolybdenum steels calls for numerous rapid and accurate determina tions of manganese, silicon, chromium, molybdenum, copper and nickel. For the past year, T h e Babcock & Wilcox Company's T u b u l a r Products Division has used spectrographic analysis instead of wet chemical methods for these measurements. Quality of these tubular products steels has been maintained with considerable reduction of the delay involved in former methods of testing.
HAVE YOU A JOB FOR THE SPECTROGRAPH? If so, be sure you specify " N a t i o n a l " spectroscopic electrodes. They a r e the purest obtainable and are accompanied by a "statement of p u r i t y " which tells precisely which trace elements are present. Y o u r analyst is thus forewarned against errors arising from unexpected spectral lines.
