New Allied plant for nitrosyl sulfuric acid now on stream in Buffalo Our latest plant is producing HOS0 2 ONO, one of Allied Chemical's newest chemicals.

It reacts with diethyl ether to form ethyl hydrogen sulfate and ethyl nitrite.

Nitrosyl sulfuric acid shows 53.8% NOHS0 4 dissolved in oleum. Density is 1.95 gm/cc at 20°C. When seeded, it solidifies at 20-22°C.

It reacts with aromatic amines at 0°C or below to yield diazonium sulfates.

The acid has a number of interesting reactions. It decomposes in water to yield sulfuric acid plus nitrous acid which in turn decomposes. It reacts with benzoyl chloride to liberate nitrosyl chloride.

These suggest its use in preparing dye intermediates, and as a chemical intermediate. Nitrosyl sulfuric acid is available in 55-gallon drums. Contact your nearest General Chemical Division sales office for more information or write on company letterhead. Technical data sheets free on request.
