BOOKS. date chapters including: two-body problems, nuclear forces, three- and four-body problems, nuclear spectros copy, nuclear reactions (almost onethird of the book), α-decay, /3-decay, interaction of nuclei with electromag netic radiation, and nuclear shell struc ture. The book is planned for a graduate student in physics, with one course in quantum mechanics, w h o knows the concepts of nuclear physics. I t would be hard work for the nuclear chemist, but rewarding. T h e presentation is clear, with numerous schematic figures. Each chapter ends witb a complete list of explanation of symbols; the fact that these bulk to 10'v of the book indi cates the detail in t h e treatment of complex topics.

been compiled by t h e A E C Industrial Information Branch. T h e first part of the series lists or abstracts from nearly 9000 reports technical data pertinent to the metallurgical and ceramics in dustries. Most of t h e reports listed i n the bibliography m a y be insp ?ted a t official AEC depository libraries. Other bibliographies on AEC spon sored technical developments now in preparation include chemistry and chemical engineering, construction and civil engineering, electronics and elec trical engineering, health and safety, industrial management, mechanics and mechanical engineering, mining and geology, a n d nuclear technology. Bibliography on metallurgical and ceramic industries may be obtained from Industrial Information Branch, U.S.A.E.C, Wash. 25, D. C. An nouncements of AEC technical reports available in the future will appear in a special section of Nuclear Science Ab stracts.

A translation service has been started hy Special Libraries Association i n co operation with the John Crerar Library, Chicago. S.L.A. Association h a s de posited in Crerar Library, 1300 trans lations which form nucleus of pool. A list of these translations will be avail able for distribution presently. Arrange ments are also underway for listing of future contributions in technological journals i n the fields covered b y the translations. The association is solicit ing contributions from government agencies, technical societies, universi ties, industries, and individuals. Since National Science Foundation is establishing a center for holding and photoduplicating scientific translations with particular emphasis on those in Russian, t h e S.L.A. translation pool will be devoted to translations from lang uages other than Russian. Russian translations presently in the pool will be transferred to the NSF center. Contributions a n d requests for in formation should be addressed t o : S.L.A.
