ACS Council issues for New Orleans meeting When the American Chemical Society Council meets later this month during the society's national meeting in New Orleans, it is scheduled to act on a num ber of routine issues. For instance, it will select candidates for 1997 president-elect and determine membership dues for 1997. However, no petitions to amend the society's bylaws or constitution—a frequent item on council meeting agen das—are scheduled for action. Four nominees for 1997 president elect have been proposed by the Com mittee on Nominations & Elections. Councilors will select two of them as candidates to run in this fall's ACS election. The four proposed nominees are as follows: • Edward M. Arnett, emeritus pro fessor of chemistry at Duke University, Durham, N.C • Daryle H. Busch, Roberts Distin guished Professor at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. • Paul H. L. Walter, professor of chemistry at Skidmore College, Sarato ga Springs, N.Y. • Richard N. Zare, Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University, Stanford, Calif. The council meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, is open for observa tion to all ACS members. It will be held in the Grand Salon C/D of the New Orleans Hilton Hotel, beginning at 8 AM. •
