Gas Scrubber Lab or Pilot-Plant Evaporator •

Provides

efficient

Easy to install

Designed perature

removal

for any operating

New scrubber has no moving parts and is self-cleaning, nonclogging, and according to the manufacturer, does the purifying job entirely by centrifugal action upon the moving gas or vapor with a minimum pressure drop. I n operation, the contaminated gas or vapor enters the vessel and spreads out in the lower chamber where it is combined with the scrubbing liquid, which is either sprayed on the outside of the tuyère or fed into the base of its inner circumference. Jet action from its passage through the tuyère blades imparts a rotary motion to the gas which thoroughly mixes it with the scrubbing liquid and tends to throw the heavier liquid particles to the outside of

A high-vacuum evaporator has been designed for use in such work as selenium and germanium deposi tion, base plating of crystals, car bon evaporation, vacuum metalliz ing, and optical coating. Standard vacuum t a n k is borosilicate glass bell jar, 12 inches in diameter and 18 inches high, provided with a metal screen guard and counterweighted lift. Dept. IEC, Kinney Manufacturing Division, The New York Air Brake Co., 3529 Washing ton St., Boston 30, Mass. 5

Filtering Elements New, complete range of filtering elements made of either sintered bronze or 316 stainless steel is available for all types of filtering requirements. Filtration selections are within the following ranges: bronze elements, 5—12, 12—25, 25— 50, 50-125, and 150-200 microns; 316 stainless, 5-7, 7-10, and 10-13 microns. Dept. IEC, Hoke, Inc., 136 South Dean St., Englewood, N.J. 2

Self-Priming Filter Pumps A new series of stainless steel, self-priming filter pumps for filter ing corrosive solutions is now avail able. Use will be for continuous filtration, in and out of same t a n k , or simple transfer of most acid or alkaline solutions. P u m p body is of stainless steel 316 and impeller and packing are made of Teflon. Dept. IEC, Sethco Manufacturing Co., 2284 Babylon Turnpike, Mer rick, Ν. Υ. 6

Tilting Tray Dryer

Laboratory Electrodialyzer

Extremely fine, powdery m a t e rials which cannot be tumbled or dropped without excessive dust losses can now be dried successfully with this new tilting t r a y dryer, according to the manufacturer. T h e rotating system of tilting t r a y s permits t h e product to slide slowly from the upper t r a y t o t h e next t r a y below, thus, transferring the product with a minimum of entrainment during its downward travel through the dryer. Dept. IEC, Wyssmont Co., Inc., Long Island City, Ν. Υ. 3

Electrodialyzer provides accurate d a t a of the separation of soluble salts from solution. A p p a r a t u s can also be used for pilot-plant appli cations and is useful for getting d a t a on recovering valuable acids, bases, and salts from plant sewage, or removal of salts from organic or colloidal materials. A p p a r a t u s has three working cells and two elec trode cells. Capacity is 300 ml. per minute. Dept. IEC, Dept. 101, Brosites Machine Co., 50 Church St., New York 17, Ν. Υ. 7

"OOPS! THERE GOES THE EXPENSIVE ONE" Says LIMEY . . . The Lime Glass M a n

"Don't let the lab coat fool you. I'm not a lab technician. I'm a glass man . . . fooled around with glassmakin' all my life. "That's why I kinda smile when guys tell me that heat-resistant glassware is so much stronger than regular lime glass. "In that drawin' up above, I'm showin' what happens when you get a little careless and drop a flask made of borosilicate, heatresistant glass. It breaks! Just like any ordinary lime glass flask. "If you're buyin' heat-resistant glassware because you're goin' to use it with an open flame, that's one thing. But, if you're buyin' borosilicate ware because it's stronger, let me make a suggestion. "Try the same experiment I did. Drop a flask made of boro silicate glass on the floor. Then drop a regular Doerr Diamond D Blue Line flask on the floor. If they both break . . . buy the least expensive of the two. "Better still . . . just buy the least expensive one to start with and save yourself a lot of time and money."

Recirculating Furnaces

For more than four decades Brighton has fabricated equipment for the processing industry. From our modern and completely equipped plant, Brighton craftsmen build small tanks, large tanks, special tanks from all types of alloy metals. Typical fabricating jobs include: fractionating columns, reactors, pressure vessels, (jacketed or unjacketed) coils, agitators, kettles, tanks, evaporators. Special machines weld, bend, flange, roll and form. Brighton fabricates according to ASME code requirements. For creative engineering, craftsmanship and on time delivery of equipment, write for complete information. Prompt estimates on your fabrication requirements.

A line of 1000° F . recirculating furnaces is now commercially available. T h e units are designed for solution heat treating and similar processes. To ensure maximum temperature uniformity, the air flow is controlled by means of adjustable louvres covering the entire area of the supply and return duct work. Pirani Vacuum Gage Has Low Zero Drift Single-station Pirani vacuum gage, designated Type GP-115, measures on two scales the total pressure of condensable vapors and permanent gases in a vacuum system. The high range scale reads from 0 to 2000 microns of mercury, with 50 microns in the lowest division. T h e low scale expands the 0- to 50- micron portion of the upper scale and is calibrated in units of 1 micron. Useful for activating an alarm or protective circuit and aiding in auto matic cycling of a vacuum system, the device has a contact meter to actuate an external circuit upon a change in pressure.
