Acid-Proof

Sheet

Filter

An acid-proof filter for producers of vine gar and other acid liquids is offered by t h e Hercules Filter Corp. It is described as a flexible unit which can be used for clari fication, sterilization, or both in filtration of organic and inorganic acids. All or

a r e constructed with back-seated rings having a pressure-tight joint between s e a t ring threads and line pressure. In t h e body, ribs support stressed areas. I n t h e stem, t h e special alloy h a s increased re sistance t o corrosion, abrasion, and distor tion. Solid bonnet contact is claimed. Canting a n d cocking of t h e disk are said t o be prevented by the improved belowthe-shoulder position of t h e stem in t h e guided-disk construction. Ε 3

Radiation

ganisms or particles can be removed from airy filterable liquid, according to the manufacturer. Active heads and piping are of stainless steel, and the filter frames are molded from hard rubber or from one of several synthetic products, depending on t h e char acteristics of the liquid to be filtered. Where required, the stainless steel parts can be constructed of any metal and coated with acid-resistant synthetic materials. Ε 1

Small Steam

Trap

Strong, Carlisle & Hammond Co. has announced a small-capacity steam t r a p said to fit standard applications for small amounts of drainage. Available for pres sure from 0 to 150 p.s.i., this t r a p was built for drainage where condensate loads are light and conditions call for t h e economy of an inverted bucket trap. Special fea tures include renewable seat, seamless, deep-drawn, stainless steel bucket, wear resistant valve and seat, and orifice de signed for greater capacity. Some of the recommended applications include laun d r y and dry cleaning equipment, industrial unit heaters, kitchen and restaurant equipment, hospital sterilizers and a u t o claves, and tire recappers. Globe arid Angle Valves Principal future of the 300-11). bronze globe and angle valves now offered by the Fairbanks Co, is the interchangeability of the disk-and-seat combinations for full portway and throttle portway use. T h e three types include either heat-treated stainless steel plug disks and seats of ap proximately 500 Brineil hardness or nickel alloy radial disks a n d seats, while all three

Survey

Meter

Tracerlab, Inc., is offering a version of t h e Cutie Pie ionization chamber SU-1A portable radiation survey meter described a s possessing m a n y features which sim plify its use and m a k e possible more pre cise measurements. F o r example, its large, three-inch meter, calibrated directly in milliroentgens per hour, permits faster, more accurate readings to be made. Three scale ranges of 25, 250, and 2,500 milliroentgens per hour permit precise readings t o be m a d e from well below tolerance dosage r a t e of values far above those normally encountered in most radioactivity laboratories, t h e manufac turer s t a t e s . A movable circular shield permits differentiation between b e t a and gamma radiation. Ε 4
