THE CAMILLE AND HENRY DREYFUS FOUNDATION, INC.
New Postdoctoral Program in Environmental Science The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation is now accepting proposals from academic institutions in the United States for awards that allow Ph. D. chemists and chemical engineers to work at a scholarly level with experts in specialized areas of environmental science. Institutions that receive awards under the program may then appoint, for up to two years, either a new Ph. D. recipient or a senior chemical scientist, perhaps on sabbatical leave, as a visiting scientist. Appointments would be made in accordance with the insititution's existing procedures. The goals of the program are twofold: to encourage work of the highest scientific merit related to chemistry and the environment, and to strengthen the background and experience of the visiting scientists in a way that will stimulate them to continue this general area of inquiry in their further research. Examples include but are not limited to air and water pollution and their remediation, hazardous waste reduction and disposal, and elimination of toxic by-products in chemical manufacture. The program will run initially for a total of three years, with new two-year awards being made in the first and second years. Each award carries an annual stipend of $35,000 for direct support of a visiting chemist or chemical engineer, $5,000 annually toward fringe benefits, and $5,000 annually for research support. Stipends can be supplemented from institutional or other sources. The deadline for receipt of proposals is February 29,1996. For more information contact: Dr. Robert L.
