The illustration shows one of our electrolytic plants consisting of 96 No. 5 K N O W L E S Cells, operating at 220 volts, 2,000 amperes, D.C. and producing 3,090 cubic feet of hydrogen and 1,545 cubic feet of oxygen per hour, installed in one of the factories of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. The duties required of the plant were the production of high purity gases, continuous operation with freedom from stoppages, and a low cost of maintenance.
All these conditions were fulfilled by the K N O W L E S Cells, which were of our normal standard production and in no way particular t o this installation. The supply of distilled water to the cells is maintained automatically and provision is made for the heating or cooling of the cells, according to whether they are operating at low or over loads. Plants are made in all capacities t o suit the requirements of the Customer, and produce 8 to 170,000 or more cubic feet of hydrogen per hour. Further particulars will gladly be sent upon application.
