NICKEL TRENDS
New products anticipated from Sherritt when gap narrows between supply and demand
The story of Sherritt has been a story of product development. One new form of nickel has followed another. • First came nickel powder . . . in several grades and sizes. Produced by Sherritt's ammonia leaching and hydrogen reduction processes, it was 99.9% pure and highly adaptable to specialized applications. • Then, the powder was compressed and sintered into easy-to-handle briquettes for normal melting consumption. • Next, composite or metal-clad powders were introduced to increase the applications of nickel. • Several years ago, Sherritt developed a new process for rolling nickel powder directly into strip. Sherritt then used the strip to punch coin blanks in precise diameters and sizes to meet critical mint specifications. • Right now, Sherritt is at work developing new forms of nickel. You can expect to hear more about them as nickel supplies expand to meet demand. • This is another reason why Sherritt will be there to meet your nickel needs of tomorrow.
