PRODUCTS Fugitive emissions sampler This isokinetic sampler uses electrostatic precipitation as the collection method. Sampling is unidirectional, limited to any 22.5O sector. Wind drives the air through a nozzle, a precipitator, and out 4 holes in back of a venturi screen. The combined effects of the increased flow velocity outside of the screen and the constriction imposed by the 4 holes regulate the flow to be isokinetic a t all wind speeds. A battery-operated high-voltage supply provides continuous operation for up to 60 days. TSI 101 Lethal toxicity assay Tests available include single-dose, dose-response, and both acute and chronic exposure. Nematodes are used as the subject organism. Bio-Concepts 102

IR spectrophotometer A line of 3 microprocessor-controlled spectrophotometers is offered. A scanning range of 4000-600 cm-' is provided by 2 of the models; the third has a range of 4000-200 cm-'. Manual slit and gain adjustments may be used on 2 of the models for more demanding sample conditions. All have a 4-digit display of wavenumber, an LED touch-panel, and a self-diagnostic general check-out routine. PerkinElmer 103

cludes algebraic transformations, point-by-point integration and differentiation, and statistical analyses. Two signals may be added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided. Graphics include 200-points-per-inch strip chart or X-Y plot output. Data is acquired on up to 8 channels at frequencies of dc to 20 kHz; signals are digitized with 12-bit precision. Bascom-Turner Instruments 107

TOC analyzer Total organic carbon analyzer operates from fractions of ppm to thousands of ppms. An optional automatic sampler holds 80 tubes and permits unattended operation. A low-temperature, UVpromoted chemical oxidation system eliminates the problems associated with high-temperature pyrolysis, according to the manufacturer. Analysis time can be as brief as 3 min. Results are displayed on a digital display and on a printer. Envirotech-Dohrmann Division 104 Permeation-tube calibrator Most air analyzers with a sampling rate of 1000 cm3 or less may be calibrated with this portable system. A constant bath temperature for the all-glass permeation chamber is maintained by a thermistor-controlled solid-state circuit. Calibration standards of 0.05-32 ppm may be generated, depending on the number and type of permeation tubes used. Mast Development 105 Combustion efficiency analyzers Device measures oxygen levels in stack gases, smoke, combustibles, stack temperature, and draft through a single probe. Continuous readings are provided. Units are available to operate on ac voltage or batteries. Lynn Products 106 Software for laboratory data Version-4 software uses simple commands for data acquisition, processing, and display. Signal conditioning in-

Peristaltic pumps Flow rates of 0-90 mL/min may be adjusted independently for each channel without changing tubing size or motor speed. Pressures up to 50 psi are attainable. Models are available with 2,6, and 12 channels. The pumps use glass or ceramic check valves, and are thus resistant to corrosion. Eldex Laboratories 108 Gas-sensing electrodes Electrodes are available for ammonia-ammonium, carbon dioxide-carbonate, and nitrogen oxide-nitrate. Each membrane is mounted in a modular cap, eliminating handling or assembling of the membrane or membrane supports. Graphic Controls 109 (continued on page 1461 )

Toxic organics analyzer

CHEMISTRY T-SHIRTS

Mass-spectrometer-based monitor can identify and measure low concentrations of organic pollutants with an analysis time of 1-2 s. Typical detection limits are 1 ppb for acrylonitrile, 0.5 ppb for cyclohexane, and 10 ppb for vinyl chloride. The equipment may be transported by car or can be built into a van as a mobile laboratory. The spectrometer covers the mass range 1-200 amu. A single mass, selected manually, is continuously monitored; an optional microprocessor peak-selector allows simultaneous monitoring of up to 32 different masses. An automatic calibrator is built-in. Linearity is better than f 4% over several decades of concentration. VG Gas Analysis 111 Integrated pressure transducer

Electronic signal conditioning and amplifying circuitry is contained along with the 0-15 psi absolute pressure transducer on a single chip a tenth of a square inch. Temperature error, null, and sensitivity shift are 1% of full-scale output. Typical full-scale output is 5 Vdc. The sensor can withstand overpressure of 45 psi. Operating temperature is -55-125 OC. Micro Switch 112 L C column heater

Temperature is controlled from 0 "C to 99 OC with 0.1 O C stability. A standard safety feature includes a thermal switch that cuts power a t 105 O C . The heater accommodates both 15-cm and 25-30-cm columns from all major manufacturers. A universal mounting bracket allows injection valves to be mounted near the heated column. Scientific Systems 113 Radioactive-particle impactor

Impactor is designed to be used with the manufacturer's high-vol samplers for sampling alpha-, beta-, and gamma-emitting contaminants. Collection efficiency is approximately 95%. Air may be sampled at a rate of 50 cfm for about 20 min. Staplex 114 Computer data link

Microprocessor-based data acquirer has programmable control and processing capabilities. Up to 28K bytes of user-partitioned memory are available for storing programs and data. The link relieves the host computer of routine data handling and acquisition. Up to 100 analog inputs, 1024 on/off status inputs, and 32 binary digital inputs can be measured. Fluke Manufacturing 115
