F I N TUBE HEATERS

PORTABLE POWER SUPPLY

Improved design of modular finLube heaters permits increased initial heating capacity, simplification of expansion problems as heating load increases, and savings of required space for the unit. Improved design permits operation up to 1200" F. with pressures u p to 300 p s i . , and provides five to ten times the surface area per square foot of tube than is provided by plain bare tubes. Vertical installation of heaters, as shown in the photo to the right, facilitates great reductions in space requirements. Brown Fintube co. 40 1

Auxiliary mobile power supply provides u p to 3000 watts of direct current power and u p to 3200 watts of alternating current power with 26 amps continuous current or 4000 watts with 33 amps intermittent current, GO cycles, single phase. Unit is designed to provide direct current booster power for industrial engines, or alternating current power for construction tools. Kat0 Engineering Co. 404

FILTER CARTRIDGE

New disposable filter cartridge is made of polypropylene to provide increased service life. Filter is designed for service in the wide p H range from 1 to 14. T h e finer of two grades available uses a heatbonded polypropylene felt as filter medium, which removes 98% of all particles larger than 5 microns and 100% of all particles larger than 25 microns when filtering liquids. For gases, 98% of all solids larger than 0.1 micron is demonstrated. T h e coarser grade unit with a removal rate of 60 microns in liquids is woven from continuous monofilament polypropylene fiber. Pall Trinity Micro Corp. 402 SONTRIFUGE DEFOAMER

A specially designed Sontrifuge has been made available to eliminate foam from aerobic and anaerobic fermentation processes; the new machine is sealed and pressurized to reduce foam space required within the unit. A combination of high intensity ultrasonic energy and low acceleration centrifugal force reduces the foam to liquid. Units are available in five sizes u p to 500-galIons-per-minute capacity. Teknika, Inc. 403

ABRASIVE BLASTER

Portable abrasive blaster is available for removal of paint, rust, and scale from hard-to-clean surfaces. Operation of this unit consists of three steps: filling the hopper with abrasive material, connection with an air supply, and engagement of the blast gun trigger. Blast gun is compatible with silica sand, steel shot or grit, nut shells, glass beads and other abrasives. Inland Industrial Products Division, Inland Manufacturing Co. 405

FIN TUBE HEATERS

CLASS1FI ER FILTER CARTRIDGE

High capacity Centri-Sonic classifier separates dry, powdered material into two sharply defined fractions above and below the desired particle size in the subsieve range of 200 mesh or finer. Four sizes of units are available from 5 to 100 horsepower. Performance ten to fifteen times the output of other centripetal classifiers is as claimed by the manufacturer. T h e Bauer Bros. Co. 406 DIAPHRAGM COMPRESSOR

Contamination-free compression of toxic, flammable, and even explosive gases to discharge pressures u p to 30,000 p.s.i.g. is possible with the manufacturer's series 3000 diaphragm compressor. Pressure Prod. ucts Industries, Inc. 407

MASS SPECTRAL COR R ELAT1ONS by FRED W. McLAFFERTY Dow Chemical Company This compilation gives t h e empirical a n d structural formulas of ions t h a t might b e f o u n d a t a particular m / e in a mass spectrum plus a n indication of how each such ion m i g h t have arisen. It contains a wide variety of compound types. Some 4,000 mass spectra are referenced. The author has drawn freely f r o m his extensive background in mass spectrometry as well as f r o m t h e efforts a n d ideas of colleagues a n d co-workers. You can f i n d possible ion structures a n d precursor molecules for each of t h e prominent ions in t h e mass spectrum of a n unknown compound with a further indication of t h e general probability of their occurrence. Newcomers t o t h e field will f i n d this book indispensable. Experts will f i n d it a timesaver i n interpreting t h e spectrum of an unfamiliar comp o u n d when information is lacking o n t h e history of t h e sample. Laboratory directors will want copies for staff members. Why n o t p u t t h i s volume to work for you? 117 pages. Paper bound. Price: $4.75

SEALED PALLET VALVE

LITERATURE

New valve, originally designed for he soft drink industry, has been adapted for extreme accuracy and ease of control in the metering and control of industrial chemical fluid llow. One feature of the new design is a fluid pressure seal which eliminates the need for a tension device such as a closing spring. Operational ranges of currently available units are at fluid pressures of 30 to 100 p i . within a temperature range of 32" to 220" F. Sizes stocked are from to inch, and larger sizes are available on order. Automatic Actuators, Inc. 408

Scraped Surface H e a t Exchangers. Bulletin describes a n d illustrates the uses of scraped surface heat exchangers, their construction features, and the solution of difficult process problems with their application. Typical design and processing problem solutions are described. Henry Vogt Machine Co. 411

ORIFICE FLANGE

Orifice flange union with flanged differential connections is now available designed primarily for use in petroleum processing and other installations where high temperatures and pressures prevail, and vibration tends to cause loosening of screwed connections. T h e flanges, designated Type FDC, are rated for 300- and 600-pound ASA applications. T h e 1/2-inchdifferential connections carry the same pressure rating as the orifice flanges. T h e latter come in sizes from 2 through 12 inches, and each union is furnished with two jack screws. Differential flange connections may be back-toback, 90" apart facing the same direction, or 180" apart facing the same direction. Robinson Orifice Fitting Co. 409 FLEX-PLUG VALVE

A unitized construction and a solid elastomer plug are features of the new Flex-Plug valve which provides low pressure drop, characteristic of gate valves, and possibility of flow control, characteristic of globe valves. Corrosion-resistant plastic material of construction provides for low maintenance, and the elastomer plug, which cannot be dislodged by fluid flow through the valve, is easily replaced by withdrawing the assembly from the valve body. Leak-tight sealing is made with very light pressure because of a patented design feature that effects enlargement of the plug when it is forced against the seating surface.
