nstructors in advanced analytical chemistry courses h a v e occasion ally expressed a wish for conveniently available selected supplemen t a r y readings in modern analytical chemistry. W e are pleased t o a n nounce a volume entitled " M o d e r n Classics in Analytical C h e m i s t r y , " consisting of " R e p o r t for Analytical Chemists" articles a n d " I n s t r u m e n t a t i o n " columns t h a t have appeared during t h e p a s t few years in ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY plus five " C & E N F e a t u r e s " from Chemical and Engineering News. T h e articles, carefully selected t o enhance t h e student's grasp of instrumentation and modern analytical methodology, were chosen b y D r . Alvin Beilby, Seaver Chemistry L a b o r a t o r y , Pomona College, Claremont, Calif. T h e selections were reviewed b y t h e Advisory B o a r d of ANALYTICAL C H E M I S T R Y .
T o minimize t h e cost, most of t h e articles h a v e been reprinted as t h e y originally appeared, b u t some authors h a v e u p d a t e d their articles with s u p p l e m e n t a r y p a r a g r a p h s . T h e volume will contain 25 articles in 275 pages with a n a t t r a c t i v e cover a n d a n introduction b y D r . Beilby. Because m a n y college bookstores expect faculty members to place orders in t h e spring for material t o be required for fall courses, we a r e prompted t o provide a convenient means t o facilitate order handling. T h e advertisement on ρ 146 A contains order information as well as other i m p o r t a n t details concerning this volume. Although t h e volume is directed primarily t o students, m a n y r e search workers with a n active interest in modern analytical methods m a y also find this collection useful. W e urge strong support of this effort, with t h e t h o u g h t t h a t it might be t h e forerunner of further r e print volumes t o t a p t h e extensive information resources of t h e American Chemical Society for educational purposes.
