These four polymers, designated Gàfanol E-200, -300/-400, and -600, are water-white, clear, bland, and almost odorless. Their varied functional properties include complete water-solubility, mild hygroscopicity, lubricity, plasticizing action, and chemical reactivity. They are low in toxicity . . . they are chemically stable . . .and they may be depended upon for uniformity and high quality. This broad range of properties gives Gafanol chemicals usefulness in many products and processes. In rubber and textile manufacture, for instance, their value as lubricants is enhanced by their water-solubility—they are easily applied and removed. Gafanol polyethylene glycols are valuable intermediates for the manufacture of chemical specialties such as nonionic surfactants (made by esterification with fatty acids), polymers and plasticizers. Surfactants prepared from the Gafanol Series are useful as detergents, leather lubricants, emulsifiers for cleaning metal, and vehicles for pharmaceuticals.
