Lab Experiment Guidelines A revised set of Supplemental Guidelines for JCE LabExperiment Manuscripts appears on page 562. These guidelines for laboratory experiments are intended to make JCE more useful and attractive to readers by providing in print a clear summary of the experiment and providing online more detailed information in a form that can be used and edited by readers. A checklist that suggests how a submission should be structured is available at http://jchemed.chem.wisc.edu/ journal/authors/laboratory/ or by request from the editorial office. Coming Attractions

16th BCCE Next month we will have capsule coverage of the 16th Biennial Conference on Chemical Education, July 30 through August 3, 2000, at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Monday, July 31 is The Day of the Ice Cream Social—its joint sponsors are 2YC3 and the Journal of Chemical Education. Rumor has it that 2YC3 officers and JCE editors and feature editors will be doing the scooping!

National Chemistry Week 2000 The theme of National Chemistry Week 2000 will be kitchen chemistry. In collaboration with ACS, the October JCE will carry out the kitchen chemistry theme with a Classroom Activity, several articles about outreach activities, some kitchen chemistry/simple lab experiments, and a resource list of Journal articles related to this topic.

Courses, Seminars, Meetings, Opportunities Microscale Workshops in Mexico The Mexican Microscale Chemistry Center, in the Department of Sciences of the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, will offer several workshops in 2000: General Chemistry: May 15–17 Basic Organic Chemistry: May 17–19 Environmental Chemistry: May 22–25 Biochemistry: May 31–June 2 Advanced Organic Chemistry: June 14–16 Physical Chemistry: June 28–30 High School Chemistry: August 7–9

In addition, three morning sessions of lectures and demonstrations by international experts are scheduled for May 22–24. Workshops are 20 hours long. The language is normally Spanish, although occasionally there are guest instructors who teach in English. Advance registration (at least one week) is required.
