Kenneth C. Towe has been elected president of the American Cyanamid Co. ^-^ succeeding the late % ~~ N fe ^ ^ ~ ^ > V j Raymond C. Gaugler. Mr. Towe has been a director since 1939 and has been associated with the company since 1926, when he began as a member of the accounting department. He proKenneth C. Towe gressed through assistant treasurer, comptroller, treasurer, and vice president in charge of finance. He is a director of Porocel Corp. and of Cyanamid's principal subsidiaries, North American Cyanamid, Ltd., Chemical Construction Corp., and Cyanamid InterAmerican Corp.

William H. Avery of staff of Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory staff, presented with the C. N. Hickman Award for 1951 of the American Rocket Society. The award was given in recognition of "his capable direction in initial research into the nature of the complex phenomena associated with the burning of solid rocket propellants." Myron G. Berry from Syracuse University joins department of chemistry, Ohio Wesleyan University, to teach physical chemistry and assist in general chemistry. Everett J. Frazza, chemist with Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University, awarded a predoctoral chemistry fellowship by the National Institutes of Health, to study at the University of Maryland. Robert J. Rubin from Cornell joins staff of research center at Applied Physics Laboratory, Silver Spring, Md. Paul C. Maybury, from Johns Hopkins, now at Applied Physics Laboratory. Thomas R. P. Gibb, Jr., has been appointed director of sponsored research in chemistry at Tufts College, Medford. Mass. In this newlycreated position Dr. Gibb will work with members of the chemistry department in developing sponsored research programs in various fields of chemistry. Mees, vice president in charge of research for Eastman Kodak Co., had retired after 40 years of service with the company. Dr. Mees organized the research laboratory at Eastman Kodak in 1912 when he first came to this country from England.
