AJMERICAN-SCANBINAVIAN TRAVELING FELLOWSHIPS

St., N e w York, Ν. Υ . , will this year award a special fellowship of 31000 for research in electrical engineering in Sweden. T h i s fellowship is n a m e d for Irving Langrnuir, winner of t h e Nobel Prize in 1932, and t h e recipient will be expected to visit D r . Langrnuir and his associates a t the General Electric Co. before leaving for Sweden. I n April t h e foundation will award to students of American birth a n u m b e r of traveling fellowships for study in various fields of science in t h e Scandinavian countries during the academic y e a r 1935-36. T h e fellowships will carry stipends of S1000 each. Graduate students and younger instructors and professors a r e especially invited t o become candidates. Wherever possible t h e papers of all applicants from one institution should be considered first b y a committee of professors i n t h a t institution a n d for warded t o t h e jury with an indication of preference. Applica tion papers, including letters of recommendation and photograph, must be filed a t the office of t h e foundation before March 15, 1935. The j u r y which makes t h e final selection is composed of college professors a n d technical experts and has as chairman Professor William Hovgaard, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
